Instrument Cluster Repair FAQs

How To Remove The Instrument Cluster

The instrument cluster assembly is usually held in place by a plastic bezel that connects it to the dashboard. The removal process should start with locating all the screws holding the bezel (below the dash and around the bezel) and removing them. Once the bezel is gone, you will have easy access to the cluster, which should be held with a couple of additional screws. However, before completely removing the cluster, be sure to detach all wires and cables without damaging the connectors. Of course, as always, when you are dealing with a car’s electronic components, disconnect the battery just to be safe.

How To Install An Instrument Cluster

In order to re-install your instrument cluster, you must follow the reverse procedure. Locate the wires and cables and ensure they are appropriately connected before placing the cluster in the dash. Secure the cluster with screws and then install the plastic bezel. Connect the car battery and test the instrument cluster, its responsiveness, features, and accuracy.

Many people are concerned about what this means for the mileage shown on the odometer. We talk more about that on the ISS Automotive blog.

Why Fix Your Instrument Cluster

Numerous things could go wrong with your instrument cluster. From simple things like failing light bulbs to loose speedometer cables. However, the first thing you should do before you start tearing down your dashboard is try to determine the problem clearly. Sometimes, if you believe that your fuel gauge is broken, it could be a faulty sending unit in your tank. Some fixes are easy, like replacing cables or bulbs, but most are very complicated and require special tools and expertise. Let ISS Automotive's experienced team take the guesswork out of repairing your instrument cluster.
