Why OEM Parts Are Best For Your Ford Sync System

If your Ford Sync is glitchy or broken, you may consider replacing it with an aftermarket unit. But, as we'll explain, the best thing to do is repair the OEM unit. Not only will factory parts work better than an aftermarket unit, but they will also cost you less money. The benefits of retaining your OEM Sync system include the following:

An OEM System Will Retain All Of The Features Of Your Ford Sync

Replacing your system with an aftermarket unit could mean sacrificing some of its functionality - and no one wants that. Sometimes aftermarket head units offer either Bluetooth connectivity or Apple CarPlay / Android Auto but not both. Most won't recognize voice commands unless you spend a lot of money on a high-end unit. Even then, many functions may not work as well as they did with the Sync. This is because most aftermarket units are not developed exclusively for Ford products, so you'll likely encounter issues.

You may not be thinking of trading in your vehicle, but if you do, its resale value could take a hit if it has an aftermarket radio. The Sync system in your Ford is a feature that adds value and is a selling point. Selling your car with an aftermarket radio will lower its value, whether you trade it in or sell it privately.  

Aftermarket Radios Are Harder To Install And Not Always Compatible 

Aftermarket radios are never a direct fit replacement for the Ford Sync and may not be compatible at all. Even if it does work, you may experience the following problems:

  • The aftermarket radio may not fit correctly in the space occupied by the Ford Sync. Depending on the aftermarket radio's dimensions, it may be too small or large. This means you'll need a fit kit to make it fit. The fit kit won't match your dash.  
  • The connections for the aftermarket stereo may not be plug-and-play, meaning you'll have to splice your stereo connections.  
  • The aftermarket unit may not be compatible with your speakers or amplifier. You may have to replace the amplifier and speakers to get the same sound quality. 

Any or all of these issues add up to a real mess that could cost you many hours and hundreds of dollars more than if you just remove, repair, and re-install your OEM unit.
