Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Know If My Instrument Cluster Needs Repair?
Most commonly, you'll see signs like flickering or dim backlighting, inaccurate or non-functional gauges, intermittent power loss, or total power failure. If you notice any of these issues, it's time to consider a professional inspection and repair.
How Do I remove An Instrument Cluster?
Cluster removal is something most any DIYer can do. You only need a little mechanical knowledge and a few common tools. The steps generally include:
- Disconnecting the car battery.
- Removing the plastic bezel that contains the cluster and joins it with the dashboard.
- Removing the additional screws that hold the cluster in place within the dash.
- Detaching all wires and cables - be careful not to damage any of the connectors.
We offer several specialized guides on cluster removal in our blog. Additionally, we always recommend you take photos along the way to be sure you get the new cluster installed exactly as the old one was.
How Do I Install An Instrument Cluster?
To re-install your instrument cluster, you simply reverse the procedure used for removal. Locate all the wires and cables and re-connected them to the new cluster. Secure the cluster with screws and then re-install the plastic bezel. Connect the car battery and test the instrument cluster, its responsiveness, features, and accuracy. You'll receive complete written instructions with your cluster as well. We're also available if you have questions - call us at 800.548.1195 or contact us online - we're happy to help.

Will A Repaired Instrument Cluster Look Like New?
In short, your repaired cluster will WORK like new, but will still look the same as when we received it. Our goal is to offer a 100% OE style repair of your cluster. Our trained engineers will fully rebuild and test all parts to ensure your repaired cluster operates at OEM standards. We offer two types of cluster repair services:
- Standard Repair - This repair service takes about 3 hours of labor and includes a full cosmetic restoration of the instrument panel. This includes a restoration of all gauges such as the battery voltage gauge, water temperature gauge, fuel level gauge, speedometer, tachometer gauge, and temperature gauge.
- Full Rebuild or Complete Rebuild - This repair service includes all of the above, plus a full restoration of the circuit board.
Our complete diagnostic check includes the replacement of failing gauges and/or the speedometer. If you're experiencing total power loss or intermittent power, PRNDL display dimness, or burned out/dim backlighting, our repair service will make your cluster run like new again. Our repair process includes:
- Initial testing and troubleshooting
- Thorough instrumentation cleaning
- Removal and replacement of faulty and failing parts
- Removal and replacement of ALL back lighting
- Removal and replacement of ALL instrumentation stepper motors with updated stepper motors
- Rework of solder joints
- Removal and replacement of power supply
- Final assembly and testing, including instrumentation calibration check
- Return ground shipping via Fedex or UPS
Your repaired cluster will still be programmed with your VIN and mileage for easy install. Plus, you'll get free 2-way shipping for exchange of your cluster and easy plug-and-play installation.
However, we do not address/correct cosmetic flaws or damage on your cluster. Your instrument cluster will still have the same scratches and scuffs it had when you sent it to us. We are not responsible for items damaged before reaching our facility. Be sure to prevent damage by carefully wrapping your whole cluster in bubble wrap.
