How To Remove An Instrument Cluster In A 2003 Hummer H2
Blending styling from the legendary Hummer H1 with the practicality of the GM's large family SUVs, the Hummer H2 is one of a kind. Its rugged, iconic looks give the Hummer H2 an unmistakable road presence. Unfortunately, like many GM trucks and SUVs of this vintage, the H2 suffers from issues with its instrument cluster.
Common Issues
Underneath its imposing exterior, the H2 is a large, roomy family SUV. It’s disconcerting, let alone unsafe, to be driving with an inoperable instrument cluster. Common issues with the Hummer H2’s instrument cluster include:
- Sticking or inoperable gauges
- Dim or no lights
You can read more about instrument clusters in our guide here.
If you’re experiencing issues with your instrument cluster, there are two options: repair it or replace it. No matter which option you choose, you will have to remove the instrument cluster from your dash. That's easier than you might expect. We'll walk you through the process.
Getting Ready For The Job
Removing the instrument cluster from your Hummer H2 is a simple do-it-yourself job. Before you start, you'll have to ensure that your vehicle is prepared and ready.
First, make sure your H2 is parked in a safe place on a flat surface. Disconnect the negative terminal from your battery. This will protect your Hummer's electrical system from shorting out.
You will need the following tools:
- 5.5mm Alan Head Screwdriver
- Interior Trim Pry Tool
- 7mm Socket Wrench
